A crew of 60 volunteers worked this morning to prepare the Michigan Tech Nordic Training Center for the upcoming U.S. Cross Country Skiing Championships. The event is scheduled to begin Jan. 3.

After the weekend’s snowfall, the trail system is currently in great shape. We are going forward full speed with plans to keep everything at the Michigan Tech Nordic Training Center.

The 2016 Junior Nationals trip for the Great Lakes District will be lead by Karmen Witham as head coach and Nick Baic as trip leader. All parties interested in attending Junior Nationals as wax techs or coaches need to apply here.

Simi Hamilton (Aspen, CO) led the U.S. Cross Country Ski Team to a historic podium Saturday in Toblach during a 1.3k freestyle sprint, finishing second in the men’s final, 0.48 seconds behind Italy’s Federico Pellegrino.

In the women’s competition Jessie Diggins (Afton, MN) skied some of the fastest checkpoint times, but that didn’t seem to fend off the dynamic Norwegian women’s team which snatched up all three spots on the podium.

The second weekend of World Cup competition kicked off with a 15k skiathlon on Saturday. The U.S. women had four in the top 30, led by Sadie Bjornsen (Winthrop, WA) in 20th.
