Kelly Peregrine and Michael Klettner win the Muffin!

We had one of the best Muffin Races ever this past Sunday, with over 50 kids from ages 3 to 19 competing in the longest standing junior XC ski race in the state of Michigan. The high school division featured an 8km Pursuit race, where the first 4km were classic and the last 4km were skate. It was a close finish for both the girls and the boys. Kelly Peregrine from Traverse City placed first for the girls with a time of 36:50, followed closely by Heidi and Emma Schwab, who placed second and third with times of 36:58 and 37:45, respectively.

For the boys, Michael Klettner took first place with a time of 33:11. Close behind in second, and in a race suit consisting of short-cropped khaki pants and suspenders, was Isaac Coulter with a time of 33:19. Nathan Tafelsky came in third with a time of 35:48.

Custumes were optional, but recommended!

The Junior Muffin Races were well attended with kids from all over the state, and the coolest part was that the high schoolers hung around to cheer them along the 1km Blizzard trail race course. Everyone enjoyed a big roast barbecue and awards ceremony on the sun deck, under blue skies and sunshine. What a great day!
