On Monday, April 16, 2012, registration opens for all three of the American Birkebeiner's signature cross country ski races on February 23, 2013: the Birkebeiner 50K Skate / 54K Classic, the 23K Kortelopet, and the 12K Haakon.
With the primary responsibility of serving as administrator for the USSA cross country, nordic combined and ski jumping programs, Caterinichio will operate the nordic domestic system, manage internal projects and coordinate nordic sport committees.

UPDTATED: Veteran Kris Freeman capped off the season with his 15th career U.S. title, winning the 50k mass start in Craftsbury. Freeman battled teammate Tad Elliott the entire distance with a mind boggling 32 laps on the 1.5k Craftsbury course.
Overall World Cup sprint champion Kikkan Randall (Anchorage) proved dominance in her repertoire of disciplines as she won the 30k U.S. Championship in Craftsbury, VT. The win marks Randall's 17th U.S. Championship title.
The weather had been sunny, dry and cold, with slow, abrasive snow in the days leading up to the race, but clouds rolled in the evening before, bringing preservation of warmth, humidity, and a bit of fresh snow.
