A deal to secure the future of the Telemark Resort in Cable has stalled once again, creating uncertainty for organizers of the American Birkebeiner ski race and residents counting on jobs and income from Telemark.
NordicSkiRacer Bill Kaltz takes us around the April 2 ski trail at Huron Meadows Metropark at about 9:30am. Freezing conditions made the trail firm and skiable early in the morning.

Adam Haberkorn has taken the pile of snow and groomed a 0.4k skate loop at Huron Meadows. (NOT an April Fools joke) The trail is open for skiing!
For those wanting one last shot at skiing, there will be a very informal race beginning at 9:30a.m on the South trail head at Huron Meadows prior to the groomer party.
The 3rd annual groomer appreciation party will be held at the Huron Meadows Metropark clubhouse April 2nd at 11:30. But starting at 9:00am, we'll be on snow and on skis! So bring skis, running shoes and mountain bikes for some pre- Party fun.
We drive the proposed the ski course for this Saturday's Groomer Appreciation festivities. This is where we'll be spreading 300 cubic yards of snow.
Video: 300 cubic yards of snow hidden under tarps and insulation will be used to create a quarter-mile ski trail, 16' wide, 6-8" deeps, with both classic and skate lane the morning of the Groomer Appreciation Party at Huron Meadows Metropark on April 2.
The entire skiing community including active alpine skiers, snowboarders, ski jumpers, cross-country skiers, and freestylers, from across the globe, has joined forces to create ways for helping Japan in disaster relief effort.
A petition drive is being run to build a warming facility at the Blueberry Ridge cross country ski pathway.
There is a very good possibility that we will have an on-snow ski event at Huron Meadows for the groomer appreciation party! The details are guarded at this point, but there is a snow harvest/storage/preservation procedure in the works.
April 2nd is your opportunity to say thank you to the people who provided great ski conditions all winter at Huron Meadows. Please take this chance to let the people who worked so hard know that their efforts are appreciated.
