A petition drive is being run to build a warming facility at the Blueberry Ridge cross country ski pathway. The goal is to get 1,000 online signatures. The petition reads:
To promote outdoor recreation and participation in the Upper Peninsula, the undersigned support creation and use of a long-term warming facility at Blueberry Ridge, which shall be open to public use and enjoyment. Blueberry Ridge is among Michigan's most popular cross-country ski trails, offering more than 22 kilometers of trails for people of all abilities. A local governmental unit shall ideally secure a 30-year lease for a small piece of state land through the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment, at little or no cost, to build the lodge. Leasing the property will keep the lodge in the public's hands and allow opportunities for grant funding available to local units of government.
