Says Mariah Frye: We are THRILLED to tell you that the Cross Country Ski Headquarters team was victorious in taking back the Michigan Cup this year, in the tightest race in recent history! A big congrats to Team NordicSkiRacer for giving us a major run for our money - it really came down to the relays, and it was a fight to the finish!

LATEST TRAIL CONDITIONS

TUE, MAR 21

Cross Country Ski Headquarters: The warm temps and sunshine caused quite a bit of melt yesterday. The trails will not be groomed today. If you do decide to ski, please watch for icy and bare spots. The Trapper's Cabin trail will be in the best condition. The Stone Turtle Cafe is open! Join us for Happy Hour from 2pm to 5pm today and every weekday until the end of March. Spring Clearance and Demo Sale is on now too!

MON, MAR 20

Forbush Corner: Incredibly beautiful conditions on freshly groomed snowmaking loop, ridge and badlands. No new snow overnight, so after yesterday’s warmth and sun, I classic skied with Swix purple klister on my Atomic ARC race skis. Perfect from 25° at 9:20 until snow slowly transformed after noon. 13.6 miles, max speed 22.1 down home run hill.

Huron Meadows Metropark: From the Huron Meadows website -
Bucks Run Trail (man-made snow) – Monday, March 20th – Buck’s Run was last groomed on Sunday, March 19th for skate skiing only. The trail contains bare spots, ice, and dirt in many areas. Due to declining conditions, today is the last day Buck’s Run will be operational. Beginning Tuesday, March 21, Buck’s Run will be closed for the season.

Forbush Corner: A gift opening of Forbush on this sunny spring day. My third day in a row skiing at Forbush. Fresh grooming on Ridge, Badlands and the loop. It was lovely! I skied a two times around Badlands with Wendy Anderson and I tried to learn how to skate better mimicking her skills. Thanks!! Other trails were skiable but not freshly groomed so I stayed on those. Things getting soft in the sunny spots.

Huron Meadows Metropark: Ice sheet. Rutted. Was not groomed, bare spots showing. My advice is avoid.

Dunes Golf Club: Remarkable conditions, conditions continue. Early day has the best fun factor.
Next season look for groomed skate lane 5-10 km!
increased skier use and snow amounts that hold on during warm periods makes this worth the effort.
Elevation and locatIon makes the Dunes a snow catcher.
till then ski the secret

Huron Meadows Metropark: 9 am Icy, rutted, not groomed

Forbush Corner: We are open today 9 to 5. Fresh groom on east side trails. Come early for best conditions.

Cross Country Ski Headquarters: Happy Spring! The snow we received Saturday night made for a nice bonus day of skiing yesterday. While yesterday's sun took a toll, there is still some great skiing to be had today. Groomer Mike will snowcomb the Relay Loop and Manitou this morning. Groomer George set classic tracks on Trapper's Cabin yesterday. Ski early today for best conditions, as it will warm up considerably this afternoon. The Stone Turtle Cafe is open and the Spring Sale is on!

SUN, MAR 19

Vasa Trail: I'd strongly recommend starting from the Rock, as conditions from the TH this morning were real risky. The bare ground such as on the first downhill departing the TH can be seen and avoided, but the numerous areas of well camouflaged gravel under a light dusting of snow were much harder to see and avoid, such as at the bottom of the first hill and at the bottom of the hill just past the Steve Karides bench where the 2K connector joins the main loop and numerous other areas around the 10K course. The groomers didn't waste their effort grooming the gravel leading up to and after the bridge or the catwalk/ledge beyond that first hill, so the safest option is to take the Headwaters to the main loop.
Also many areas of bare ice where the snow had been sluffed off it. Several skiers were abandoning their idea of doing the 10K and turned back after going a short distance and discovering how risky it was. While finishing my 10K skate loop including my worst fall on ice in years from some hidden gravel, I noticed a lot of ski boot tracks where skiers decided to walk back up the final hill to the TH. The loop probably got worse under the hot afternoon sun.
If I ski tomorrow, and until we receive more snow, it will be from the Rock .

Forbush Corner: Great day of classic and skate skiing today. All trails groomed. Best founders day in years. Full parking lot.

And Bill Bradley I hope you’re ok! Don’t want to see anyone get hurt. Best wishes to you!

Huron Meadows Metropark: Thank the people who give us a ski season in S.E. Michigan. Groomer appreciation/end of season party. Huron Meadows clubhouse, March 25th, this coming Saturday, at 11:45. Please bring either a dish to pass or beverage to share, but no alcohol.
There will be door prizes, awards, and if Buck's Run is still skiable, we'll throw together a last minute fun race. We have a putt and ski biathlon sketched out if things hold together.
Support the program, have fun, see what people look like in regular clothes and not sweaty.

Michaywe: Groomed skate lanes and set track on the lake loop, herringbone, river trail, and both golf course loops. Conditions are very good, just an occasional thin spot.

Huron Meadows Metropark: It was like walking through the wardrobe into Narnia. Crunchy, fast snow, no classic tracks so extra wide skate lanes. A few places with ice and dirt, but less dirt than late less week. Thank you Metroparks, this has been a really great week.

Huron Meadows Metropark: Bucks Run was beautifully groomed bright an early this morning. A huge thank you to the groomers for getting it done early and with an amazing result of very fast and controllable conditions. Based upon the forecast, conditions should be good tomorrow too....

Forbush Corner: Founder's Day Grooming Report: Trails groomed = EVERYTHING. Question - does EVERYTHING mean The Pines Loop and Crybaby? Answer - YES. $10 skiing + free food + Giving The Shop Away Sales = no brainer

Cross Country Ski Headquarters: We received 4-5 inches of snow throughout the day yesterday and overnight. Groomer Mike will start off by grooming the practice area and the Relay Loop, which consists of Trapper's Cabin and part of Rolling Hills. All the trails are open, and the Stone Turtle Cafe is open! Make the most of this beautiful last day of winter!!
