The Cross Country Ski Headquarters continues with a commanding lead, and Team NordicSkiRacer is still solidly in second place, but the Vasa Ski Club has moved ahead of the Grand Rapids Ski Team.
In the past few days, 57 inches of snow has fallen - so heavy that it has pushed the ice sheet down in Lake Sils. This has allowed water to soak the snow into slush!
Standing On Business, BBN, and Coach Ethan and His Bird were the top male, mixed, and female teams at this annual event at the Cross Country Ski Headquarters.
The Vasa Raptors had some standout performances to win the High School Nordic Ski Championships. But the Superiorland Ski Club rocked the Middle School races!
Jorden Wakeley (Hanson Hills / Cross Country Ski Shop) and Jordyn Ross (Grand Rapids Nordic Ski Team) had a great weekend, each winning both the Michigan Cup Freestyle and Michigan Cup Classic Championships.

Wax recommendations for the this weekend's Michigan Cup Championship races!, the Forbush Freestyle and the Hanson Hills Classic...both at Forbush Corner.
The American Birkebeiner, traditionally a 50K race, will now be a 30K event. The Kortelopet, a beloved 29K race, will be condensed to a 20K distance. Additionally, the Prince Haakon, typically a 15K race, will be shortened to a 10K course.
How can the typical racer who doesn't arrive on the snow until the day of the race know how cold the snow is going to be?
The Cross Country Ski Headquarters takes a commanding lead in the Michigan Cup, accumulating 13,600 points as of the Forbush Memorial Freestyle. Individual standings also available.
Forbush Corner will be hosting both the Michigan Cup freestyle and classic February 17 and 18 on the man made snow loop. Start time 9:30. Bib pickup 8:30 - 9:15.

Stokely Creek: Great skating conditions this morning! The small uphills seemed non-existent with the free momentum rollercoastering me over the crests. Big hills had enough loose corn from the ginzu that they were perfectly controllable. Skating might be ok for a couple more hours, but touring skis will definitely be fine all day.
Cross Country Ski Headquarters: We will be closing the trails today, Friday, and tomorrow, Saturday, to preserve the base for the Michigan Cup Relay Race on Sunday.
Nubs Nob: The morning sweet spot for the last 3 days has been awesome . The groomers are taking full advantage of the 20 inch hardpack base .
Hiawatha Highlands: Good Morning! It's another milder morning up here....currently at -2 C. The sun is shining beautifully!!
The groomer is currently out with the Piston Bully -- the 2k Lighted has been groomed for both classic and skate. He is currently on the Crystal....at the moment is fixing up the Hiawatha loop (boots), and will finish up grooming the 5k, classic and skate. The Pinder system was done yesterday and is holding up well, as is the Red Pine system.
We hope everybody has an awesome sunshiny day!!
