After a two-week hiatus competition in the Brumbaugh returned to the Forbush Freestyle at Forbush Corner. A six inch snowfall saved the day and race conditions were fast over an icy base. It was Hanson Hills/Cross Country Ski Shop’s home course and they showed up in force winning the day with 72 points as Mandy Paull won the women’s race and placing all three women in the top 7. Grand Rapids Nordic finished the day in second with 85 by placing all five men in the top 17. Team NordicSkiRacer finished third on the day with 92 points but maintained the overall Brumbaugh Cup lead. Vasa Ski Club made a strong outing as Kevin Tarris won the men’s race handily and finishing the day in fourth with 99 points. Cross Country Ski Headquarters finished with 113 points and the University of Michigan Ski Club with 141
At the end of the day, Team NordicSk Racer remained in first and Hanson Hills/Cross Country Ski Shop in second picking 20 points on Team NordicSkiRacer.
Grand Rapids Nordic Ski Team solidified it’s hold on third. Cross Country Ski Headquarters remained in fourth but only 18 points ahead of charging Vasa Ski Club. University of Michigan is still in sixth. The race is getting tighter with only three races left.
Six inches of snow allowed Hanson Hills to set a track and pull of the Hanson Hills Classic after cancelled their first two Michigan Cup races. Hanson Hills Cross Country Shop again won the day with 70 points as Rebecca Davis and Mandy Paull finished 1-2 in the women’s race and Michael Davis won the men’s race scoring 70 points. Team NordicSkiRacer placed all five men in the top 14 to finish only two points behind HH/CCSS. Cross Country Ski Headquarters owner finished third in the women’s race and led her team to third lace with 102 points, 9 points ahead of the Grand Rapids Nordic Ski Team in fourth. Vasa Ski Club and the University of Michigan finished with 131 and 138 points respectively.
At the end of the day, it was still Team NordicSkiRacer in first with with 320 points and Hanson Hills/Cross Country Ski Shop in second with 355 points, gaining 22 points on TNSR for the weekend’s efforts. The Grand Rapids Nordic Ski Team remained in third with 480 points, while the Cross Country Ski Shop kept it’s grip on fourth with 516 points. Vasa Ski Club is fifth at 563 points and the University of Michigan is in sixth with 682 points.
Only two races remain in the Brumbaugh Cup. The Black Mountain Classic and the Black Mountain Freestyle finish the season with a weekend of racing in two weeks in Cheboygan and John Gravlin guarantees good snow. The race for first place in the Brumbaugh Cup will definitely come down to the wire. Be there.
