The new T-18 is a step up in performance and price from the Toko T-14 digital iron that has been very popular the past few years. The new T-18 is clearly a different design and fabrication entirely.

Polar will not provide a Windows 10 driver for the Polar USB IrDA Adapter. If your heart rate monitor uses it to communicate with your PC, that functionality will go away.

Why is this iron exciting? Beside having a super nice form, soft hand grip, cord conveniently coming out of the side making it more manageable, thick graduated base plate, quality digital performance, it also goes much hotter than our other irons.

We are the largest ski history organization in the WORLD and without local support and patronage, we will not be able to keep the fire burning and Denver or Park City could gobble us up with their deep pockets and endless donation chains.

LATEST TRAIL CONDITIONS

MON, NOV 19

Noquemanon Trail-Forestville: Forestville Real Grooming Report: An inch of new snow overnight will be nature’s grooming for today’s skiers. As you recall, on Saturday we roll packed the Noque’ to the 19k mark near the gate as well as Animoosh, Zing and Boozhoo. Skating yesterday afternoon was very good. Classic was also good but there are no classic tracks set as of yet. Andy is back from the first weekend of Deer camp and will groom tonight.

Way Too Long Grooming Report: Did you look at the 6 day forecast? Could it get any better? Snow today and night and not at high temp over freezing! Andy will get the Wagis rolled and hopes to get some classic tracks set. The early season rolling has allowed the ground to freeze. We look to be seeing mid season conditions in November. Now I just need some mid season legs, arms and lungs.

Also, just a word on the trail head. We have ordered a new time operated door. The one we have been using gave up the ghost this fall. With a short week this week we are not expecting to have it fixed until next week. You youngsters have heard stories about when we used to have to sit in our cars and change our boots and then just drive home after skiing. So, imagine this is old timer’s week and you can get an idea of how life was in the olden days.

PS: Skiers are reminded to wear orange and to respect hunters. And, hunters are reminded not to shoot skiers with orange hats. No grooming can take place during the day until December 1st to keep the woods quiet during fire arm deer season.

SUN, NOV 18

Bay Meadows GC: Saw lots of people out skiing today but none better than Vojin who stood at the side of the trail to look at all the other skiers go by. Stopped and talked with him and even at 90 or so he is still coaching and cheering everyone on. The bad thing about him was he was wearing a Packers ski cap. Skiing was great again.

Valley Spur: Pretty good classic tracks at Valley Spur today. Classic tracks were hard and fast. Waxed with blue extra. Only about 25% of the trails are open. X and B trail were the best. I would not recommend skating. Skate lane looked really uneven. They need more snow, to even out the skate lane.

Grandview Golf Course: Great weather, snow conditions, scenery & friends, Kathy & Lise, to xc ski 18 holes at Grandview this morning. Lots of fun hills to climb & yee-haw down, too! This is my favorite pre-season ski destination, so very thankful for the early snow! There was 3-4" of heavy snow here on top of radio tower hill east of Kalkaska.

Kensington Metropark: Hi Kris Olsson!

My "Super Skis" are ancient Trak NoWax touring skiing that I use for iffy early season snow. For the full story: http://www.nordicskiracer.com/news.asp?NewsID=1106

Gotta have a pair so you're not afraid to ski in fear of ruining a good pair of skis when rocks and gravel may be present. Someone gave my the pair for free, and I just had to put on bindings!

Mike

Kensington Metropark: Thanks for the Kensington report. Inspired to try closer golf course like Leslie Park. Mike Muha, what are "Super Skis"? Just your rock skis or some special tough skis for us SE Michiganders?

Hiawatha Highlands: Two trails with 6 km of groomed skating and classic are open.

Nubs Nob: All 21k of trails are open and will be packed out this morning. Expect early season conditions.

Forbush Corner: Coverage is decent - rock skis for sure, but great to get out.

Kensington Metropark: Fairways are still skiable....no grab

Noquemanon Trail-Forestville: Forestville Real Grooming Report: Yesterday noon we roll packed the Noque’ to 19k as well as Animoosh, Zing and Boozhoo. Skating yesterday afternoon was very good. Classic was also good but there are no classic tracks set as of yet.

Way Too Long Grooming Report: First, please know, I am wearing my hair shirt for failing to get a report out yesterday. We had technical difficulties. Our carrier pigeon broke a wing and had to walk all the way to spruce street.

On a lighter note, I got new skis yesterday! Now, some of you know that the name
Sondo translates to “user of old sporting equipment”. So, when Wally and Carrie drove by the shop they had to stop the car to see if it was really me walking out with nice new skis. They ask me who I was and what I did with Sondo. After I reminded them I broke my (11 year old) race skis last spring they forgave me for acting out of character.

So, I then sprinted back to my waxing den and then to the trail head. Failing to bring blaze orange, I asked a skier if I could borrow his. I’m sure he had some second thoughts but relented. I expect he was calculating if I were to be hit by a stray bullet we get an improved grooming report writer.

See you out there.

No grooming can take place during the day until December 1st to keep the woods quiet during fire arm deer season. For extra credit, what year did we get the blaze orange Noque’ hats?
