Red is our choice for storage waxing as Blue is so hard that it is more difficult to make sure that there is no air between the ski and base and Yellow is so soft that it gets "eaten away" quicker.

Using what was left of the artificial snow made back in December, Bob, Stu and crew created a twisty, hilly, 200-yard loop course on the ski park, which was just long enough to get the skiers out of breath and make shooting the guns an exciting challenge.

LATEST TRAIL CONDITIONS

WED, JAN 17

Cross Country Ski Headquarters: The ski conditions on the John Deere loop was terrific yesterday. Trail Doctor Mike worked on extending the the loop with the snow spreader yesterday, and will continue today. He will also snow comb and reset classic tracks on the loop where needed this morning. We received dusting of snow last night and it is currently snowing, which continues to add to the snow pack. The Rolling Hills, Manitou, Wild Turkey, Mackinaw Cut, Trapper’s Cabin, and Adventure are open for rock skiing today. The practice area still has plenty of coverage for ski demos and lessons. Snowshoeing is welcome on all the trails as well.

Stop by and demo some skis! Free equipment demos are available all day, every day. Our sale on XC ski packages and cross country ski clothing continues on great deals from Fischer, Salomon, Smartwool, and more. Today’s Stone Turtle Cafe lunch special is the El Gordo Panini! Sliced ham, provolone cheese, banana peppers, tomato, red, onion, spinach and BACON, plus mayo and mustard on a ciabatta bun, served with Great Lakes Chips and a pickle.

Join us this Saturday, January 20th for Stretch & Slide, a Yoga Ski Retreat! More info at crosscountryski.com.

TUE, JAN 16

Lost Lakes Pathway: A quick ski at Lost Lakes between PE ski lessons & Sr euchre. The tracks in the campground loop are thin & hardpacked, but breaking trail on the back loop was deeper & silky, though rough base throughout. The snow in the woods from last Thurs' meltdown took a big hit! We need to do some snow dancing before the weekend!!!

Huron Meadows Metropark: Trails groomed again today. The inch or so of snow we had helped out. Classic tracks still shallow. But still good and fast. Skate lane looked great. Several people out skiing both classic and skate today.

Boyne Mountain: Trails are freshly groomed and in very good condition. Vistas is particularly beautiful today with the sunshine! Christmas has pine debris on the trail, but is quite skiable. Deer Run is closed due to bare spots.

Milham Park Golf Course: Well after it warmed up to a more comfortable seven degrees Milham has now been groomed. To thin to set a track but groomed an extra wide skate lane. Would expect skiing to be fair once the trail has some time to set up. Looks like we can ski locally again at least until the weekend.

Nubs Nob: Conditions are amazing for skating today. A very firm base with a few inches of light compacted snow on top. Skiers are raving about the trails right now.

Vasa Trail: Left from Timber Ridge (not groomed, rough tractor ruts). Skied towards Riley’s. A little bumpy but not bad. Looks like a snowmobile was on it. We got to the single track parking lot and the trail had been destroyed by a truck! We turned around and completed our ski on the inside loop of the main Vasa trail. It was very nice even without a fresh groom. Squeeky snow for skate skiing today but gorgeous out!

Milham Park Golf Course: Woke up early to groom Milham this morning only to find that it was very cold and snowing pretty hard. I have today off from work so current plan is to wait until it the snow lets up and it warms up a bit. Plan is to groom late morning / early afternoon now. Would expect it to be ready by midafternoon. I will report after grooming but expect thin but doable skate lane and to thin to set a machined track. Would expect classic skiing to be ok just to thin to run the track setter around though.

Hanson Hills: Total accumulation of snow received yesterday 1/4- 1/2 inch. We will be out packing this light lake effect snow this morning, and re-assessing the trail system. Trails will remain closed today.

Huron Meadows Metropark: Groomer broke yesterday. Staff is working to get it up and running again.

Cross Country Ski Headquarters: Trail Doctor Bob continued adding snow all day yesterday to the John Deere loop, and was able to snow comb and even set classic tracks late in the afternoon! Conditions on the 1.2km John Deere loop are excellent for classic and skating. We also received about 2 inches of snow throughout yesterday and last night, which helped conditions immensely. This morning, Groomer Mike will snow comb Rolling Hills, Manitou, Wild Turkey, Mackinaw Cut, Trapper’s Cabin, and Adventure, which will be open for rock skiing today. He will also work on extending the John Deere loop with the snow spreader. The practice area still has plenty of coverage for ski demos and lessons. Snowshoeing is welcome on all the trails as well.

Stop by and demo some skis! Free equipment demos are available all day, every day. Today’s Stone Turtle Cafe lunch special is the Wild Turkey Panini! Sliced turkey breast, basil pesto, sun dried tomatoes, spinach, and provolone cheese, grilled on Stone House 7-Grain bread. Served with Great Lakes Chips and a dill pickle spear. The trails area calling, time to ski!
