Our delay in Rovaniemi was nice while it lasted, but it meant a late night - arriving at the hotel in Helsinki at about 1:30AM. Grover had an early flight and was out the door before 5:30.

A Decent Disappointment

Kris was 16th (tied) yesterday in Kuusamo. It’s not the result he was looking for, but it’s quite respectable for a basically pedestrian day. He set the race up perfectly - was running right near 10th place, and definitely within striking distance.

Freeman finishes 16th in Finland

The U.S. Ski Team's Kris Freeman pulled within one minute of the leader to finish 16th in a World Cup cross country 15K race Sunday in Kuusamo. Freeman, a diabetic, tied for his spot for his second straight top 20 finish.

2009 Junior World Championships split between two countries

The 2009 FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships are divided between two nations this year - an exception for 2009 because of the extremely short time remaining until the event to find an organizer to carry out all three disciplines.

Arritola, Babikov Win SuperTour 10K Freestyle

The U.S. Cross Country Ski Team's Morgan Arritola won the women's 10K freestyle race as the USSA Cross Country SuperTour wrapped up in West Yellowstone Saturday. Canada's Ivan Babikov swept both men's races over the weekend.

The U.S. Ski Team's Andy Newell (Shaftsbury, VT) kicked off the first World Cup classic sprint of the season with an 11th place finish Saturday in Finland. Norway swept the men's podium.

Bodensteiner Named VP Athletics

Two-time Olympian Luke Bodensteiner has been named to the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association's (USSA) key athletics leadership role. USSA President and CEO Bill Marolt named Bodensteiner as vice president, athletics for the Olympic sports organization.

The Norwegian nordic sprinters have their own web site with a Top Gun-style theme called "Top Ski." Everything on the site is in the Norwegian language, but there are some great photos and video.
