In a photo finish, the Lower Peninsula's Kaitlyn Patterson was just edged out of first place in the Great Bear Chase 50K Skiathon by just four-tenths of a second.

Twenty-four skiers and one fat biker showed up to perfect temperatures, and precisely dusted, not groomed, trail. The trails skied are the hiking trails, Penosha and Kachin, nearing a distance of 6 miles and a challenging 500 feet elevation gain per lap.

Liz Stephen (East Montpelier, VT) hung on for an 11th place result in the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 30k classic mass start, a race defined by Norway’s Therese Johaug who broke away with a sharp pace early and held on for an impressive win.
