No surprise here: You get the members of the team out to race, you have some good results, and you win the overall Michigan Cup...again! Congratulations to the Cross Country Ski Headquarters!
It was a busy end to the biathlon season as the 10th Mountain Ski Center in Fort Kent hosted the U.S. Biathlon Championships and North American Biathlon Championships.
They're quick, stable, and a blast to ski on. They're super on technical descents, and very nimble climbing. I think they're really great all around skate skis, handling sugar well and firmer conditions well, too.
It’s the time of year to thank the people who made great skiing at Huron Meadows Metropark possible. Mike Muha will formally present the proceeds from the Frosty Freestyle race to the Huron Meadows xc ski fund!
Congratulations to the Cross Country Ski Headquarters Team for winning the 2010 Michigan Cup, the forth time in a row, and the fifth time since 2004! The Headquaters also took the Brumbaugh Cup, but the Baic Cup went to the Vasa Ski Club.
Marit Bjoergen finished the 10 km handicap start race in a time of 31.58 min, 51.9 seconds ahead of Justyna Kowalcyzk from Poland.
Collision in the 20km pursuit at the 2010 World Cup in Falun, Sweden. Andy Newell makes it around (barely) while Brian Gregg gets taken down hard.
The team was determined to show that Canada belonged at the top of the men's standings and set out at the begining to move up the rankings.
Starting today’s Pursuit in 44th place, Tim Burke (Paul Smiths, NY) showed his strength as he moved up twenty places to 24th despite three penalties overall.
...and he also takes home the overall World Cup.
My brother gets 3 inches of snow in Dallas today, and 8 inches fall north of Dallas. DFW had a daily record.
Norway's Petter Northug took the victory in the World Cup Finals Pursuit over 10 km + 10km in 1:00:03h, just 1.7 seconds ahead of Tobias Angerer from Germany.
Kikkan Randall (Anchorage) took it a step up Saturday in the final weekend of the FIS Cross Country World Cup, which features a multi-stage mini-tour at the traditional Swedish Ski Games, finishing 14th during the 10K pursuit in Falun.

Stokely Creek: Surprisingly skiable despite no groom today. There's a half inch of slow snow in the tracks, so if you stayed in the tracks it was fine. Out of the track was a rutted frozen slush ridge clustermunch. Stay in the track.
Base is THICK so this weekend coming up looks like excellent skiing!
Forbush Corner: Looks like the warmer weather is going to retreat to wherever it came from and let colder weather and a good chance of measurable snow return. We are watching the weather forecasts just like you. A recon of the east, west and south trails today looks promising for really good skiing if we get the snow predicted this Friday and Sunday. There is adequate base, but there are a few places where dirt is showing, some icy spots and debris from the wind storms this winter is mixed in. So here is what we are planning:
Thursday and Friday: Man-made snow loops groomed for skate and setting fresh classic tracks. Total of 3.3k.
Saturday: We are hopeful that the predicted winter storm will drop enough snow to groom more trails in addition to the man-made loops. We will also be celebrating Founders Day (Dave Forbush’s birthday). We will have hot dogs, chips, cookies, baked beans, bean burgers, beverages, etc. If you want, bring a dish to pass.
Sunday: We could be skiing in a winter storm.
Monday: Should be winter like. Maybe a full system groom?
We will make a call on Monday about being open for the rest of the week.
