The FIS Continental Cup series allow the younger athletes to prepare themselves for the World Cup level. Some of those held during the Northern hemisphere winter period are the OPA Cup (Central Europe), the Scandinavian Cup as well as the US Super Tour.
Bill Demong, third place overall in the World Cup Nordic Combined, finished the season with 97,250 Swis francs or about $85,038 at today's currency conversion rate.
Most are in Fairbanks. A few are on the way up there from Sweden. Some are cooked and not rare but all the way through. I'm in Rodby, Denmark on the way to Munich, then home. I'll get some more stuff up then.
First there was the World Cup finale on Sunday. Then the blow-out bash in Sweden. Next came a flight across the pond only to be stranded in Seattle for 36 hours due to the Mount Redoubt eruption.

The overall World Cup victories for Kowalczyk and Cologna also made World Cup history since no other skier from either Poland or Switzerland has ever before clinched a Cross-Country World Cup crystal globe.
Perhaps it’s fitting that a Swedish skier won the first event of what local organizers are calling the biggest races in Fairbanks in a quarter century...
I had a late start so I could watch the other girls leave the start gate and I was getting both nervous and anxious to get my race going. A few last thoughts popped into my mind; "do I have enough kick;" "did I warm up enough."

Becca Rorabaugh used a little home-course advantage to land on the podium for the 5-kilometer classic race that opened the U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships Tuesday night at Birch Hill Recreation Area.
