The race organizers for the annual Black Mountain Nordic Classic 31 km classic race on March 6th are pleased to announce the addition of a 10 km freestyle race to take place in conjunction with the classic race. The 10km race will likely start directly after the 31 km classic start.
The freestyle race will start and finish on Trout lake below the Black Mountain Lodge and follow the tour course. The race course would not be characterized as a technical course but has multiple fast downhills and beautiful views of Black Lake and Lake Huron from the ridge tops on which the course follows.
The 31 km classic race will continue to be the Michigan cup points race. No Michigan cup points will be earned through skiing the freestyle race, however. Awards, a custom t-shirt, and nice lunch will await all finishers.
In an effort to keep things simple for the volunteers, no timing will be provided for the 10 km freestyle race. The race organizers hope that the addition of the 10 km freestyle (skate or classic) will allow non classical skiers and junior skiers an opportunity to race this great course.
