The Vasa Ski Club High School Team, The Raptors are in search of a new Head Coach for the upcoming season after Coach Ruth Oppliger’s departure to join the coaching staff at NMU. The following is an overview of the commitments and duties of the Head Coach: Attending and running practices traditionally 4-5 days a week. Organizing and managing a coaching staff. Putting together a training plan for 3 levels of skiers- beginners, intermediates and advanced that progresses through the season. Attend select races which are determined by the Head Coach. Attend the State Race weekend. Having a Level 200 Coaching Certification is preferred but a commitment to reach that certification in 12 months is acceptable. Be proficient in waxing both skate and classic skis and have the ability to teach those skills to the athletes.
This is a paid position with the head coach being paid up to $10,000.
The Raptors are also in search of assistant coaches. Any level of commitment is welcome. Depending on their level of participation, Assistant Coaches can be eligible for paid compensation.

The new coach is needed as former head coach Ruth Oppliger left to become the Northern Michigan University Wildcat's Assistant Nordic Ski Coach. Before she left, Oppliger led the Vasa Ski Club to win the overall 2021 Michigan State High School Championships on the Michigan Tech Trails in Houghton, Michigan.
