World Cup Stage Race: The FIS Tour de Ski

New for the 2007 is the FIS Tour de Ski, a mini-Tour de France-like ski stage race that consists of
- 8 top international Cross-Country Skiing competitions (the stages) in
- 3 countries
- at 5 different venues
- in 10 days
The five venues include Nove Mesto (CZE), Munich (GER), Oberstdorf (GER), Asiago (ITA) and Val di Fiemme (ITA).
The athletes race a total of more than 60 km (women) and more than 100 km (men) in all types of competitions in both skate and classic techniques. The finish of the Tour de Ski is on top of the Alpe Cermis (1280 m) in Val di Fiemme. Until now, that mountain – representing a total climb of 425 m – has never been raced up, only downwards!
Scoring
Like the Tour de France, the Tour de Ski overall results are based on the overall time score in all eight Tour Stages. Also like the Tour de France: Miss a stage? You're out of the race.
The top 30 in the sprint racers get bonus seconds subtracted from their overall time. There will also be bonus seconds awarded at intermediate points in mass start competitions.
FIS World Cup points will only be awarded after the last Tour Stage according to the final FIS Tour de Ski standings. The factor will be 4, i.e. the Tour winners will receive 400 points (= 4 x 100 points in the regular FIS World Cup Cross-Country races).
There are two rest days during the stage race.
