August 11, 2010 will be the 13th Annual Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic. For thirteen years strong this race has brought bike enthusiasts to Marquette County. In the beginning 480 racers competed for glory. In 2011 over ,2000 racers competed and for 2012 the race committee expects to reach far over 2,300 registration mark.
The Ore to Shore weekend will feature a Bike Expo on Friday night with local vendors and race bag pick up from 5-9pm. Then on race day the fun starts with the Shore Rock starting in Marquette at 8 am, the Hard Rock in Negaunee to begin at 9:45am, then the Soft Rock beginning in Ishpeming at 9:00 am. The youth events begin at 4:00 pm at Lakeview arena with the Junior Rock 4 mile, then the Littlest rock 50 yard dash at 5:00 pm, and ending with the Littlest Rock 1 mile at 5:15 pm.
One sentiment that has been consistent throughout the race’s history is the volunteer support we receive. From day one, our bikers have been thrilled with the volunteers throughout the course, the spirit and excitement that they’ve shown, and the commitments they’ve seen come from this community.
Help us to continue this tradition of outstanding community involvement. Volunteers are needed for every aspect of the race, from registration the night before to the awards ceremony immediately following. If you are able to volunteer, please contact the Ore to Shore at [email protected] or call 866-370-7223 to express your interest. Someone from the race committee will be in touch to assign and confirm volunteer responsibilities.
Encourage friends, family and neighbors to volunteer and make this year’s Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic a total community experience!
The next racer registration cutoff is June 30th at a great rate of $55.00 for more information visit the race website at www.oretoshore.com.
