Hello TART friends,
We need volunteers to help us with our 2006 Tour de TART event. For more information about the event, please go to www.traversetrails.org/tourdetart

(I have a list of about 10 people who have contacted me already about volunteering for the event. You will receive a phone call next week to determine which job on this list works best for you.)
Volunteer opportunities prior to the event:
Poster/ event brochure distribution: (Distribute posters by July 11 at the latest) Volunteers are needed to come to the TART office, pick up posters and brochures and distribute them to the following areas:
1 person needed to hang posters on Cass Street, Union Street and State Street in downtown TC (a volunteer already went down Front Street)
1 person needed to hang posters at TC area grocery store bulletin boards
1 person needed to hang posters in Leland and Northport
1 person needed to hang posters in Glen Arbor and Empire
1 person needed to hang posters in Suttons Bay and Lake Leelanau
1 person needed to hang posters in Maple City and Cedar
1 person needed to hang posters in Kingsley
1 person needed to hang posters in Elk Rapids
Enter pre-registered riders: A volunteer is needed to come to the TART office and help entering participants in a MS Excel spreadsheet. We would prefer to have the same volunteer come for a few hours (2 hours or so) on the following days: July 17, 20, 24 and 27
Sign inventory: (Needs to be completed by July 14) A volunteer is needed to examine the event route and determine where we need signs to help with way-finding. Also, the road-route needs to be signed.
Volunteer opportunities for event day, July 28:
Traverse City intersections: Volunteers are needed to stand at the intersection and let riders know how to cross these busy intersections. Some riders may have questions on the route.
2 people needed from 4:00-7:30pm- TART Trail/Woodmere Ave. crossing
2 people needed from 4:00-7:30pm- TART Trail/ Front Street crossing
2 people needed from 4:00-7:30pm- TART Trail/ Division crossing
Trucks: Volunteers needed to assist with loading and unloading bikes from the trucks. Volunteers will ride in the truck with the driver and will make up to 2 trips with the driver.
5 people needed from 6:00-11:00pm- volunteers will meet at a location determined at a later date
Set up in Traverse City: A volunteer is needed to assist with event and registration set-up
1 volunteer needed from 3:00-5:00pm
Registration in Traverse City: Volunteers are needed to assist with event pre-registration and day-of registration
7 people needed from 3:00-5:00pm

Traverse City parking: Volunteers are needed to assist with parking participants in the lot between Brick Wheels and McLain Cycle. Once lot is full, volunteers will direct participants to park across 8th street on neighborhood streets.
6 people needed from 3:00-7:00pm
Traverse City bike security: Volunteers needed to set up bike corral, assist with unloading bikes from trucks and make sure that riders pick-up their bikes when they get off the bus in Traverse City.
2 people needed from 7:00-11:00pm- at McLain Cycle on 8th street in Traverse City
Set up in Suttons Bay: Volunteers are needed to set up in Suttons Bay.
4 people needed from 4:00-6:00pm
Suttons Bay bike security: Volunteers are needed to intercept all riders when they dismount their bike. Bikes will be corralled if the rider wishes to ride back to TC or does not wish to have their bike transported by truck back to TC.
6 people needed from 5:30-9:30pm
Food in Suttons Bay: Volunteers are needed to help with the dinner in Suttons Bay.
2 people needed from 5:30-9:30pm to check meal tickets
2 people needed from 5:30-9:30pm to assist with food service
2 people needed from 5:30-9:30pm to man the dessert table and make sure that riders fill out a brief event survey
Potluck Dessert in Suttons Bay: If you love to bake, this is the job for you! We will have a potluck dessert table set up in Suttons Bay. If you decide to make a culinary creation for Tour de TART riders, please drop off baked goods at Body Balance in Suttons Bay or at McLain Cycle in Traverse City. Desserts may only be dropped off on July 27 or July 28.
Bus loading in Suttons Bay: Volunteers are needed to assist with directing participants to the buses and helping with bus loading.
2 people needed from 8:00-10:00pm
Suttons Bay 4:00pm shuttle bus for Leelanau residents: Offered to pre-registered riders, a shuttle bus will leave SB at 4:00pm and drop riders off at event check-in. Riders can then ride the trail back to Suttons Bay. A volunteer is needed to check that all riders who signed up for the shuttle are on the bus and assist with loading bikes on the truck (that will follow the bus).
