Our annual Smart Commute Week event is next week! June 5-9, 2006
It's that time of year again! Put your car away and get your bike tuned up, your tennis shoes laced up or buy a BATA pass in preparation for the 12th Annual Traverse City Smart Commute Week! Smart Commute Week is administered by Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation (TART) Trails with input and collaboration with many community organizations.
The goal of Smart Commute Week is to get folks to consider alternative ways to get to work. Smart commuting includes bicycling, walking, carpooling or taking BATA. The purpose of Smart Commute Week is to promote alternative transportation and to educate area residents of the benefits of a smart commute. Smart commuting includes many benefits for your health, for the environment and for your wallet.
New! For your convenience, there are designated Smart Commute lots at the following locations: Fouch Road and Cherrybend Road parking lots on the Leelanau Trail, First Congregational Church, Medalie Park (next to Logan's
Landing) and TBA Career Tech Center on Parsons Road. A Smart Commute lot is a designated parking area for you to park your car and finish your commute by biking or walking the rest of the way to work.
New! Bike Buddy/Carpool Program: Do you want to ride your bike to work but don't want to ride alone? Would you like to carpool, but don't know of anyone in your area who shares your commute? New this year, we are offering a buddy system as part of Smart Commute Week to connect commuters with a cycling buddy or carpool buddy. For full details, please go to our web site.
New! Commuter profiles are included on our event web site to showcase individuals who have participated in the event. Find out who smart commutes at www.traversetrails.org/smartcommute
