A group of Michigan skiers headed north over the weekend to participate in the Ontario championships. Members of the GRNST, lake Michigan, and Vasa ski clubs teamed up to challenge Jr. teams from all over Ontario.
Mass start mayhem, fast skiers, and fun relays combined for a great event. Michigan skiers were well represented and had multiple top ten finishes.
Congratulations to Reid Goble who placed 4th in the classic just 15 seconds off the lead, Katie Todd 7th in the freestyle, and closed a big gap in the sprint relays to help her team to a top finish, and Ian Durand who placed 4th in the freestyle and 5th in the classic. Congratulations to Spencer Todd, and Ryan Durand for mixing it up in a large mass start event…bent ski poles, missing gloves, and good attitudes. Great job guys!!
The Ontario Midget Championships are held each year near the beginning of March, and offer a great chance for young skiers to get experience in an international event. Skiers from the USA were welcomed, and got to experience competition from some great Ontario clubs. The relay was a high point of the weekend with the organizers creating teams from the various clubs so the kids could meet new ski friends. The event was 3x 500m fast and furious!!
Many thanks to the Soofinnish Nordic club for hosting an outstanding event!
