This year's Ontario Midget Championships is being hosted by Soo Finnish Nordic in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, March 10 and 11. Given the proximity to the U.S. border, the organizing committee wanted to extend a special welcome to competitors from south of the border. We all feel that the opportunity to make this an international event shouldn't be missed, as it would add an extra element of fun and excitement to what is already a significant event in the calendar for youth involved in competitive cross country skiing.
The Midget Championships are for youth that meet the age criteria for Peewee and Midget categories (see the race notice at http://www.soofinnishnordic.com/events/2012%20Midget%20Champs%20Race%20Notice_Final.pdf for details). The race notice can also be referenced for items such as racing format and distances, directions to the race site, etc.
Registration for this race closes March 5, and can be conducted through zone4 at http://www.zone4.ca/reglist.asp?id=4447. Registration for Saturday night's banquet can also be completed on line.
One other item you should consider if you're thinking of attending is accommodation. Unfortunately, Sault Ste. Marie Ontario will be hosting the world masters hockey championships the same week as the Midget Championships. Guidance regarding finding appropriate accommodation during the Midget Championships can be found at http://www.xco.org/youth/temporar/12-03-13_Hotels_for_Midget_Championships.pdf. One option you may want to consider if you're having difficulty finding accommodation is staying on the Sault, Michigan side of the border.
We hope to see some of you out in March. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding this event.
Thanks.
