TRAVERSE CITY, MI - In conjunction with the 36th Annual North American Vasa February 10-12th 2012, host to the 2012 AXCS Masters Nationals held in Traverse City, the Vasa board is set to launch an instructional program for area Nordic skiers called “MeSki” starting January 2 at 6:30 p.m. under the lights of groomed trails at Timber Ridge Resort in Traverse City. The program is free to skiers who have pre-registered by January 2 for the February 11 race events.
MeSki, which had a successful start in the 2011 ski season, features a 6 week, one and a half hour format of instruction with local ski coach Eli Brown, who has extensive ski instruction background, both as an elite competitor and as a head coach at the college level. Brown coached three national champions during his five years at the University of Utah, and coached 15 athletes to All-America honors. Brown is also a member of the Vasa Ski Club I Traverse City.
The focus of the six week class is to prepare intermediate/advanced skiers with drills, technique work, and training ideas leading up to the North American Vasa. In each class, participants will have a video review, homework, and discussion following 1 hour ski around Timber Ridge lighted and groomed trails.
“I think it’s important to offer something to the racers looking to improve for the Vasa. Keeping the class free to participants is important as well,” said Brown.
Through a grant from North American Vasa, the MeSki program is free to participants who register prior to January 2 for the 36th North American Vasa, and who have a 2011-2012 Timber Ridge trail pass. Online registration for the race is available now at www.vasa.org. Information on purchasing a Timber Ridge trail pass is available online at www.timberridgeresort.net. Deadlline for MeSki class application is December 31, 2011, with registration forms available at Timber Ridge and online at www.Vasa.org.
