The sixth edition of the Viessmann FIS Tour de Ski performance by Craft Sportswear will be held from 29th December 2011 to 8th January 2012.
For the first time a total of 9 stages are included within 11 days. As last year, the host towns are Oberhof (Dec 29-30), Oberstdorf (Dec 31 - Jan 1), Toblach/Cortina d'Ampezzo (Jan 3-5) and Val di Fiemme (Jan 7-8). For an overview of the event, we have summarized a few interesting facts for you:
- Prize money: All in all, 720,000 CHF will be paid out during 11 days for both genders
- The Tour winner gets 400 World Cup points for the overall victory. In addition half of regular World Cup points will be awarded stage by stage which means that a maximum of 800 points can be accrued by winning all stages and the overall Tour ranking. In the overall World Cup, a total of 3,650 points (ladies) respectively 3,770 points (men) can be collected during the season.
- Ladies can win a total of 270 bonus seconds (4min 30 seconds) while men can win 360 bonus seconds (6 min).
- The entire Tour de Ski family will drive from Oberhof to Val di Fiemme during the Tour, which amounts to 932 km and, in good weather, 10:17h on the road; with start and finish at Munich airport the total will be 1,609 km and 17:03h
- 60.3 km is the minimum distance for the ladies on skis during the event (more kilometers will be added if an athlete makes the sprint finals), while the men will ski at least 110.15 km.
- The athletes will have on average 15 pairs of skating skis and 20 pairs of classic skis with them.
New courses will be in Toblach on 3rd January for the short distance race and in Val di Fiemme there will be slight adaptions on both days due to the newly developed courses for the World Championships.
