The paved trail connecting Island Lake Recreation Area to Kensington Metropark will close intermittently from Aug. 1 through November, the Department of Natural Resources announced today. The closure is the result of I-96 bridge repairs over the Huron River in Oakland County.
The closures will impact paved trail passage between Island Lake and Kensington. Huron River passage in the construction area will also be restricted during various phases of bridge repair. The project is managed by the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The path is frequently used by rollerskiers to create a big loop out of the 8.5 miles paved bike paths in Kensington Metropark with the 5 mile out-and-back path (plus park road) in Island Lake Rec Area.
