February 10-12, 2012 skiers of all abilities from throughout North America will enjoy three days of fantastic National Masters ski races, and fun social events as the National Masters visits the lower peninsula of Michigan for the first time.
For 2012, the National Masters long weekend will overlay on the traditional North American Vasa weekend featuring a beautiful 2 lap 50km freestyle on Saturday and a unique 16km classic event on Sunday. Organizers are also considering the possibility of adding a sprint relay just prior to the weekend. For NM2012 scoring purposes, all age/gender categories are assigned a particular distance, but all skiers are absolutely free to ski any distance you like for each race (albeit with non-NM2012 classification).
The AXCS National Masters serves as the U.S. National Championships for citizen skiers 25 and older (and also as a great race week for "Seniors" age 20-24 as well!). For the fourteenth consecutive year, American XC Skiers (AXCS) is proud to be the executive producer and sanctioning body of North America's largest annual XC ski championship event.
Registration and full information will be found at www.vasa.org beginning summer/fall 2011.
Information about the selection process for the 2012 U.S. Masters Team is found here.
No qualification or license of any kind is necessary for the AXCS National Masters...you just sign up and enjoy yourself. Guest skiers from other nations are also encouraged to take part and will be eligible for all age group awards. Under AXCS leadership, the National Masters Championships has evolved into one of those special events where skiers ranging from experts to complete novices can all participate together...and everyone has a great time.
Updated information about the NM2012 will appear here on xcskiworld.com or on the official registration site throughout 2011 and into early 2012. See you in Traverse City next February!
