The final touches are being put on the 2004 Subaru National Masters set to hit the snowy trails of Marquette/Ishpeming, Michigan January 17-22. Hundreds of skiers from throughout the United States are expected to take part in North America's largest citizen skier championship event.
The National Masters is just part of an amazing week of XC events in the Marquette/Ishpeming area including the Subaru NM2004, the National Ski Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies and capped off with the incredible Noquemanon Ski Marathon on January 24. As always, no qualification or license is necessary to take part in all the fun and excitement of these events. Members of the American Cross Country Skiers receive up to a $20 discount on Subaru NM2004 registration.
Ski conditions in the area are currently good to excellent. Several inches of fresh snow is forecast for the next 48 hours with cool temperatures and a chance of snow forecast for the entire week leading up to the start of the Subaru NM2004.
Entries to all Subaru NM2004 events will be accepted up until the night prior to all events. On-line registration is available up until January 15 without problems. * Team competition for groups of 5-7 skiers has grown to be a very important part of the Subaru National Masters. Literally any combination of ages and genders is possible. All you need is for 5 skiers to cross the finish line in the three individual races plus one finishing relay team. Team competition registration is FREE with individual entries. * Official "master" status in the United States has now been lowered to 25 years of age. The new 25-29 medal class is now known as "pre-master". Skiers 20-24 are also welcome to race in a guest category at the Subaru NM2004 with product prizes awarded instead of medals.
