MARQUETTE, Mich. – The NMU Ski Teams will be hosting the Central Collegiate Ski Association Championships at Al Quaal recreation center in Ishpeming, Mich.
Both NMU teams have won the two previous Central Super Tour events in Minneapolis and Houghton. Martin Banerud has won three of the last four races himself.
“I expect Martin to have a good weekend but he’ll have some tough competition,” NMU head coach Sten Fjeldheim said. “Dave Norris and Tyler Kornfield of Alaska-Fairbanks will be there pushing him all weekend.
“It’s going to be an exciting weekend. All teams have their full rosters back after many skiers participated for team USA in Europe.”
Skiing gets under way Saturday (Feb. 12) at 10 a.m. with the women’s 5k skate race. The men’s 10k skate race starts at noon. Sunday (Feb. 13), the men get underway at 10 a.m. with a 20k classic and the women starting at noon in a 15k classic.
“Another challenge for us will be to see how our team responds to our last couple weeks of training. We’ve tapered the sessions down and the skiers should feel refreshed and ready to go.” Fjeldheim said.
Admission is free. Come out and support the NMU Nordic ski teams.
