2006 Garland Glide: Snow and Sun

It was a bit cooler at the start of the Garland Glide Freestyle Race than the previous day's Garland Grip, but intensely sunny. Trail conditions were excellent albeit a little soft from all the new snow.

The course this day was a 5.8km loop. Junior women 13 an under did one loop; women and the remainder of the juniors (men and women) did two loops. Adult men 18 and older did three loops.

The trail was relatively flat, with a few minor climbs and a couple short downhills. Although that might sound easy, in point of fact, with no real downhills there were no places to catch a quick rest. It was an unrelenting ski - if you went too hard, you had to slow down on the flat rather than take advantage of the next downhill to rest.

144 skiers raced.

David Mclean came back from a third placed finish in the Garland Grip to win the 17.4Km Garland Glide in 53:09. Steve Kuhl came in second in 53:25, followed by Andy Weddle in 54:14.

Tracy Hardin beat out yesterday's winner, Daniela Gebhart, with a time of 44:48. Daniela finished in 45 flat. Third was Michaela Harris in 46:20.

The top junior women was once again Catarina Gulledge, fre3sh from her win yesterday. Following Catarina was Ciesla Hannah and Tiffany Bridget in 50:55 and 56:18, respectively.

Top male junior was powerhouse Jesse Smith with a time of 35:15 over the 11.6km course. Kyle Endicott came in third in 40:30, followed by William Ward close behind in 40:38.

Skiers had a great lunch after the race. Thanks to Larry Kinney and crew for putting on a pair of fabulous races, and Nick Baic for timing and results!
