The first Junior Olympic Qualifier is coming up in Ironwood, MI this weekend. There will be an opportunity to try your hand at biathlon at this event. CXC in partnership with US Biathlon will have five laser biathlon rifles with targets set up in the range at the finish area. There will be an opportunity to practice shooting these rifles before and after the races.
Once you have crossed the finish line of the race on Saturday or Sunday those who have signed up for the biathlon portion will make their way to a special shooting arena, and have 10 minutes to complete 5 shots prone position and 5 shots standing position. The time penalty will be calculated, and listed in a separate category on the finish results.
This biathlon portion of the JOQ is designed to be a fun introduction to biathlon, and will not have any bearing on the final results for Junior Olympic qualification.
