Shanty Creek in Bellaire, Michigan will unveil solar-powered lighting on the Moonlite Run cross-country ski trail this upcoming 2010/2011 season. The trail allows skiers to tour the gentle hills and valleys of the Summit Golf Course, just across the street from the Summit Village Lodge (see map at right).
Sprawling across an undulating plateau in Michigan’s Chain of Lakes region, Shanty Creek is actually a complex of three interlocking “villages” -- The Summit, Cedar River, and Schuss -- connected by trail systems and serviced by a shuttle system.
Shanty's cross country trails extend for 30 km (see full trail map), groomed for classic and skating. Its alpine ski areas feature a 450-foot vertical with 49 runs for every ability level, plus four snowboarding terrain parks and a tubing park. Its other facilities include over 500 rooms, 72 holes of championship golf, a Wellness Spa and over 35,600 square feet of meeting space.
Trail passes this winter will be $12 per day for age 13 and up, $9 for kids 12 and under.
Much of the Shanty Creek trail system is used for the annual White Pine Stampede 10/20/40 km cross country ski race in February of each year.
