During this World Cup season, the total prize money from the first to the last event amounts to 3.125 million CHF [Swiss francs: 1 Swiss franc = 1.0289 US dollars today].
For a win in a World Cup event, 15,000 CHF are awarded and a total of 40,000 CHF will be distributed for the top ten. In a relay or team sprint it is just a bit less, 12,000 CHF for the winning team and overall 30,000CHF divided across the top 6 teams.
In the newly introduced Ruka Triple, 240,000 CHF will be available for both genders altogether and in the FIS Tour de Ski, a total of 1,055,000 CHF.
In addition to World Cup prize money, the top athletes at the World Championships will also receive prize money for the first time. Per individual event, the amount will equal the World Cup, i.e. 40,000 CHF divided to the top six:
1st place CHF16,000
2nd place CHF10,000
3rd place CHF 6,000
4th CHF 4,000
5th CHF 2,400
6th CHF 1,600
and at the relays and the team sprint, the top three teams receive a total of 30,000 CHF (1st place CHF15,000, 2nd place CHF 9,000, 3rd place CHF 6,000). All in all, that makes 440,000 CHF to be paid out for the 12 Cross-Country events at the upcoming FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.
