Coach Fredrik Aukland brought Dario Cologna to success and many victories. He was involved with Swiss Ski two years and after last season he returned back to Norway. He had enough of traveling and wanted to be closer to his family. However, he remained personal coach of Dario Cologna and we will meet at some Cross-Country races such as Tour de Ski, World Champs in Oslo or WC Finals. FIS Cross-Country had a chance to have a chat with Fredrik.
FIS Cross-Country: After the end of the season you ended cooperation with Swiss Ski. Are you happy in your new job? What is your job like?
Fredrik Aukland: Yes, I´m very happy with my new job. It´s giving me many new challenges, exactly like I wanted it. I now work with business, selling and developing sport equipment. I´m also involved in a project that develops a online training system for businesses in Norway. Our goal is to get as many people as possible to have a more active lifestyle.
FIS Cross-Country: You still cooperate with Dario Cologna. How do you see this cooperation working? How often are you in contact?
FA: The cooperation with Dario and is working very good. As long as I have known him, we have had good communication. I make his training plan and we talk approximately 2-3 times a week. Mostly we discuss the training and the program for the season. Dario will also come to visit me in Norway some times and I will also go to Schnalstal in October. In that way, we can also work with technique training. In the season I will attend Kuusamo, Tour de Ski, WC Oslo and the Final.
FIS Cross-Country: You brought Dario Cologna to many victories. How do you see his chances in Oslo 2011?
FA: Dario is young and hungry. He has already won Olympic Gold medal, World Cup overall, individual World Cup races and the World Cup Final. He wants to be a World Champion and I believe he has good chances. Everything has to be right on one day.
FIS Cross-Country: Tor Arne Hetland maintains strong Norwegian mark in the Swiss Ski. Have you been in contact? Did you give him some advice and tips?
FA: Tor Arne Hetland and I have good contact. I have great respect for Tor Arne as an athlete and person. He is also becoming a very good trainer and I believe he will be in the game for many years to come. He has the ability and guts to say exactly what he means, and I appreciate that. I am more than happy to share my experiences as trainer with Tor Arne, and sometimes I pick up the phone and do just that.
