Newell and Randall take 10K/7K classic wins

Andy Newell just beat Lars Flora across the line in the USSA Super Tour Finals 10k Classic Mass Start Race in Nadawaska, Maine by 6 tenths of a second, 26:28.2 to 26:28.8. Torin Koos was a second behind in 26:29.8.
Ivan Babikov was 10 seconds into the lead but was nearly disqualified when he turned onto the lap lane instead of the finish lane. He had to turn around and go back to the start of the finish line; by that time, he had lost a podium finish. The race jury decided the error did not help the Canadian and allowed him to keep is fifth place.
Kikkan Randall skied away from the field, winning the 7k Classic Women's Mass Start race by 29.8 seconds over Ida Sargent. Randall's time was 21:01.4. Sargent (21:31.2) was just a couple seconds ahead of Rebecca Dussault (21:32.7), who just barely edged out Kristina Strandberg by 0.4 seconds.
