The Vasa board recently announced they had signed a long-term agreement with Timber Ridge RV and Recreation Resort as the site of the North American Vasa Nordic ski races. Pete LaPlaca, Vasa board president, said that, “we are extremely pleased to announce our long-term relationship with the new owners of Timber Ridge, Gordon Waggoner and Kristin Levesque. The resort is a beautiful complex that borders the Vasa trail system and offers a comfortable and efficient facility for skiers, sponsors, spectators and volunteers. They typically get more snow near Timber Ridge than we do at the trailhead which improves the likelihood of good snow conditions for the race. This is truly a win-win situation for both the Vasa and Timber Ridge.”
LaPlaca also indicated that a skier survey was conducted after the 2005 race when marginal snow conditions forced the last minute relocation of the race start/finish from the trailhead in Acme to Timber Ridge. The skiers overwhelmingly loved the layout, convenience and amenities available at Timber Ridge. Skiers as well as spectators also enjoyed the stadium lap which was added to all races and provided a second viewing opportunity of the racers for spectators.
The Vasa board is planning a Winter Open House at Timber Ridge which they will co-host with the Women’s Winter Tour. The event will help generate excitement for both new and veteran skiers for the cross country season and their participation in the Vasa and the Women’s Winter Tour. The Open House is scheduled for Sunday January 8th from 1-6 PM. Free skiing and beginner skiing lessons will be part of the festivities complimented by music, snacks, and refreshments.
