Petter Northug won for the first time a multi stage event. He claimed victory in the 15 km handicap race within 44:30.8min. Northug took the last meters easy and enjoyed the victory by shaking the hands of the spectators. The runner up and fastest in the race was Maurice Manificat. The young French guy finished 3,4 seconds behind Northug. The third spot on the podium took Marcus Hellner from Sweden.
Also on the men's side the overall victory was already decided since last week. Northug took for the first time the overall World Cup trophy with 1621 points, Lukas Bauer was second with 1021 points and Marcus Hellner took the third podium spot with 985 points. Northug was also awarded as the best distance racer while Emil Joensson took the trophy of the World cup winner in the sprint home.
The best nation this year was Norway, they won the Team Cup on the ladies and the men's side and secured with that the Nations World Cup victory ahead of Russia and Sweden.
Petter Northug (NOR)
I really enjoyed the race today. Usually I have to sprint for victory but today I could ski relaxed and control the race and enjoy the race. Spectators were amazing. There were tough conditions today but I had good skis. I am glad I won crystal globe even more because last year I was edged out in the last race so the feeling is great. My family supported me a lot and that is kind of way how to pay it back to them.
Lukas Bauer (CZE)
I am really happy I managed to defend second place overall. I finished 9th today and I must say it was a tough race. I had very good skis but my legs were just too slow today. It was long season and I am looking forward coming home to my family.
