ANCHORAGE, Alaska – A couple of news worthy items from the recently completed 2010 Conoco/Phillips U.S. Cross Country Championships. The College Cup was awarded as part of the championships and two Northern Michigan University skiers were in the mix for the World Junior Cross Country Championship teams.
The NMU Nordic ski team placed third overall in the competition with 532 points. Dartmouth was first with 584 points with the University of Alaska second (546). The NMU men were third (275) behind Dartmouth (285) and Alaska (277). The NMU women were also third (257) with Dartmouth first (299) and Alaska second (269).
George Cartwright was selected to the Men’s World Junior Championship Cross Country Team, but declined the spot. He was sixth on the men’s overall World Junior ranking list. On the women’s side, Monica Markvardsen was named as an alternate to the Women’s World Junior Championship Cross Country Team. She was eighth on the women’s overall World Junior ranking list.
