USSA names World Junior Nordic Combined Team

LAKE PLACID, NY (Jan. 11) – The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association has named ten men and three women to the World Junior Championship Team to compete in nordic combined and ski jumping following final trials last week in Lake Placid. The World Junior Championships are set for Jan. 25-31 in Hinterzarten, Germany.

Highlighting the squad are three first-year members of the U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team including Taylor Fletcher and Brett Denney (both Steamboat Springs, CO) and Nick Hendrickson (Park City, UT). Teen Sarah Hendrickson (Park City, UT), the top American on the Continental Cup this year, headlines the jumping team.

"I'm really excited to see what our U.S. Ski Team newcomers can do," said USSA Nordic Director John Farra. "They are talented and focused on getting to the podium. Sarah has had great success this year on the Continental Cup and has an opportunity to jump for a medal."

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Coach Martin Bayer will head up the nordic combined squad, which includes four athletes from Steamboat. The men's jumping squad will be coached by former U.S. Ski Team athlete Casey Colby from the New York Ski Educational Foundation. Veteran coach Kjell Magnussen will lead the women's jumping team.
