Milan and Wichern win Langlauf

Milan Baic took his first Michigan Cup race win of the season in Sunday's Langlauf 15K Freestyle at Hanson Hills Recreation Area in Grayling, Michigan. Milan finished the two lap course in 36:08. Second overall was David Mclean in 36:26, followed by John Goble in 38:22.

In the women's 15K, Amy Wichern easily out raced the field in 45:39 for first. Brenda Carlson took second in 48:13, with Gussie Peterson in third in 50:12.

Katie Todd took the girl's 6km win in 36:39. Garret Gabalis, Sean Brownell, and Spencer Todd took first, second and third in the boy's 6km with times of 29:10, 39:21, and 40:42.

Conditions were fast. The course went out the Green Trail, up the long gentle green trail hill (a great V2 hill), then turned left on the Blue Trail. A the end of the Blue, the race headed to the right down a hill, then an immediate right on the Brown Trail to the "big intersection" where it hung left and headed for the M-93 hills. The downhills were fast enough that many skiers had almost enough speed going down to glide up the following hill. On the last downhill - with a problem corner for a few skiers, skiers headed right to repeat the loop one more time. On the second loop, after finishing the M-93 hills, skiers headed back toward the lodge and the finish.
