With the start of the World Cup season 2009/10, many of the FIS Continental Cups, the most important FIS series for developing young athletes have also started into the new winter season in the Northern hemisphere. The first races in the East European Cup (EEC) and the US Super Tour were held at the end of November with a large number of participants.
From 20th-24th November, the EEC took place in Vershina Tea in the middle of Russia. The dominator of this four-competition weekend was Olga Schuchkina (RUS) who won all four races while on the men's side, Ivan Alypov (RUS) could win two competitions. The US Super Tour kicked off one week later on 25th November in West Yellowstone (USA) and included 3 competitions per gender over the weekend.
The other Continental Cup series will also soon have their first competitions this season. For example, the Central European Continental Cup (OPA) will kick off at the Italian venue of S. Cassiano on 12th-13th December while the Scandinavian Cup will start right before Christmas on 18th-20th December in Vuokatti (FIN).
