Scattered lake effect snow showers and flurries will continue today through Saturday, generally putting down a dusting to an inch or two. But a prolonged period of snow showers is expected from the Leelanau Peninsula, across the Straits region, into eastern Mackinac County. Significant snow accumulations are expected and a Lake Effect Snow Warning is in effect. Temperatures will be at, or even a little colder than, normal for early December, with readings mainly in the 20s to lower 30s.
Says Lou Awodey in the NordicSkiRacer Trail Reports:
December 4, 09 = First Snowfall
Winter is arriving, with 4-6" new snow and more Lake Effect predicted on the way the next few days! The ground is still warmish for grooming, but will roll pack some 10KM of trail today to get started. Some skiing will be available today and for the weekend on thin base conditions.
More snow and cold is predicted for all weekend so ski conditions should improve with more grooming. Keep checking. Welcome to WINTER!!!
