SnowSports Industries America (SIA) and the American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation (AAPAR) will offer a 2 1/2-day conference on how snow sports can be incorporated into school and recreation programs. Gunstock Resort and the Margate Resort in Laconia, New Hampshire will host the conference December 3-5, 2009. Professionals in physical education, physical activity, recreation and snow sports instruction are invited to attend.
Known as the Winter “Get Out!” Conference, it features workshops, seminars and on-snow learning demonstrations. Sessions will range from teaching the basics of snow sports via trained instructors to sessions on How to Fit or Purchase Equipment, Planning a Trip, Starting a Snow Sports Club, Dressing for Maximum Movement and Warmth, Risk Management and Insurance Related to Groups, Adaptive Techniques and more. Representatives from the snow sports industry and physical education/activity professionals are crafting the program.
“This is a rare opportunity for our industry to work face-to-face with adults who directly influence youth activity habits,” said David Ingemie, president of SIA. “Conferences like this generally dwell on warm weather outdoor activities. A national conference that focuses on exclusively on snow and outdoor winter sports is unique.”
For Participants
The Get Out! program features experts in outdoor and adventure education who will present cutting-edge information, best practices, and techniques in two dynamic formats.
In addition to the educational components of the conference, an exhibit area will display the latest winter outdoor and adventure products and provide contact with company representatives.
For Families
We encourage you to bring your family to Laconia, where a host of fun activities await them. We even planned a night out for the entire family to enjoy!
The Winter “Get Out!” Conference is part of SIA’s Winter Feels Good initiative to educate the public about the health and lifestyle benefits of snow sports.
