Cheboygan State park is hosting its first annual “GO-Get Outdoors” triathlon on Saturday Aug. 15. The triathlon will involve kayaking two miles from the beach to a ship wreck in Duncan Bay and then back to the beach. Next is an 8.5 mile mountain bike on some gravel and paved roads with about half of the race on park trails. The third leg is a 4.5 mile run on gravel and paved roads with a cross country segment. The final segment of the run should be interesting as participants will run along the beach through some low lying areas including a crossing of Elliot Creek.
Participants should expect to get their feet wet near the end of the competition.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in the day use area at the park and the race will begin at 10:30 a.m. T-shirts will be provided for those who pre-register by calling 231-627-2811. Everyone is welcome to participate, but the target group is age 15 years or older.
The event will cost $30 per athlete. All proceeds will go to support this event and future events at Cheboygan State Park.
