Black Mountain Nordic Classic update

We are in the last week of preparation for the 6th annual Black Mountain Nordic Classic 34 Km Classic only ski race and Marv Mendyk/John Harding memorial 10 km classic non-competitive tour. The mountain received about 9 inches of snow over the already excellent base this weekend. With the forecasted low temperatures and continued snowfall this week, we should have great conditions for an epic race.
The race starts at 10:00 on Saturday, Feb. 28 with the 10 k tour starting at 9:30. An added feature of the tour this year will be an option for tour skiers to take an alternate route back to the finish thus avoiding the hilly sections of the race course near the finish.
The race will start and finish on Trout Lake below the Chateau restaurant and lounge in Cheboygan County.
Directions from I-75 are as follows:
- East on M-68 to M-33.
- North on M-33 to Mann Rd.
- Go right on Mann rd. (East) approximately 5 miles to Black River Rd.
- Left (North) on Black River Rd. approximately 1 mile to Twin Lakes Rd. (Dirty Duck Saloon on Corner).
- Right (East) on Twin Lakes Rd. approximately 2.5 miles to the Chateau Restaurant and Lodge start area.
If coming from the North...
- 75 South to 23 South.
- Take 23 through Cheboygan .
- 1 mile past K-Mart turn right (South) on Butler Rd.
- Butler Rd combines with Black River Rd.
- Stay on Butler/Black River rd about 8 miles to Twin Lakes Rd. (Dirty Duck Saloon on Corner) .
- Turn left (East) on Twin lakes Rd. Approximately 2.5 miles to the Chateau Restaurant and Lodge start area.
