PARK CITY, UT (Feb. 19) - The U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team's Billy Demong's (Vermontville, NY) recent World Cup win in Germany marked the athlete for the USA TODAY Olympic Athlete of the Week.
Demong had to beat out the likes of reigning World Cup overall champion Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO), who won the World Championship downhill title, and four-man bobsleigh captain Steven Holcomb, who led his team to a pair of World Cup wins in Park City, UT.
According to USA TODAY, Demong's win marked the closest vote for Olympic athlete of the Week this season.
Demong is now in Liberec, Czech Republic, competing in the 2009 Nordic Ski World Championships. He finished third in the cross country portion of the mass start on Thursday, but jumping was postponed to Friday due to strong wind.
