2005 Great Lakes Marathon Series Pin Winners Announced

At long last the Great Lakes Maration Series pins have been mailed out. This year 89 skiers received GLMS. To earn a pin a skier had to complete three of the four marathon ski races in Michigan, Noquemanon Ski Marathon (Marquette), White Pine Stampede (Mancelona), North American Vasa (Traverse City) and the Great Bear Chase (Calumet). Thirty-seven skiers earned the Gold Pin for skiing in at least three marathons. Forty-two earned the Silver pin for skiing in any combination of at least three long and/or short races.

After eight years only eight skiers have earned GLMS pins in every year of the GLMS series. Bob West is the only remaining skier to have completed all 31 marathons in the eight year history of the series. Steve Smigiel and Fred Mills have skied in 30 races, followed by Maria Iwaniec with 29, Randy Kessler and Lynne Witte have 27, Kevin Kelly, 25 and Mike Schaeffer with 24. Congratulations to these eight well traveled Founders of the Great lakes Marathon Series.
