The last performance check for the World Cup athletes before the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, which will kick off in 9 days, will take place on 13th-14th February in Valdidentro, the Italian region of Valtellina. This valley is situated between Livigno/Foscagna pass and Bormio and is very well known by the teams for national and international competitions as well as training camps.
At the altitude of around 1200-1300m, the athletes will compete in the Nordic Ski Center "Azzurri d'Italia" which will host its first ever Cross-Country World Cup event on Friday, 13th February, a free technique Sprint over 1,4 km (ladies) and 1,7 km (men). On Saturday, the final test in a distance race will take place with the 10 km (ladies) and 15 km (men) Interval start races in the classical technique.
230 athletes from 24 nations will use the opportunity for a last form check after high altitude training in the past week. All of them will find great winter conditions in Valdidentro with plentiful snow and expected temperatures in the competitions days between -5 and -10 C.
