White Pine Stampede reaches agreement with Shanty Creek

The White Pine Stampede is moving into full gear for next February’s event. February 7th 2009 marks the Stampede’s 33 consecutive year.

New for this year are:

• Speedy, on-line registration through the White Pine Stampede web site  (http://www.whitepinestampede.org). There is also a downloadable mail-in registration form .
   
• A fresh agreement with Shanty Creek Resort that may help the Stampede folks avoid the problems of the past 3 years created by lousy weather conditions.

“We’ve had to reflect on the weather problem seriously,” said Jack McKaig, the event’s director since its beginning. “Our trademark has long been the true point-to-point route of our track, but we can never maintain a solid base through warm weather across all of that private land. This year we’ve added greater access to Shanty Creek’s trails, with our volunteer grooming, to have a back up supply of trail routes to use.”

For those new grooming capabilities The White Pine Stampede is purchasing its own small groomer. Operating again without major sponsorship while maintaining their support of Children’s Hospital of Michigan, the Stampede Committee is asking their supporters to help preserve the experience and the long tradition that is the White Pine Stampede.

Also new:

• Registration brochures are being mailed out Wednesday, 11/19/08. Please note early registration is open until Dec. 15th. The paper registration form can be downloaded from the White Pine Stampede web site as well.   
• Friday night before the event, registration will be at Shanty Creek Resort.  
• The 50km race has been shortened to 40km, to go along with the 20km race and the 10km tour.
