Well folks, the ski season is over and it’s time to dust off the hiking boots, bikes, and paddles. After a very successful first winter, the new owners of Stokely Creek Lodge continue to make improvements and upgrades and are now offering Stokely as an all-season retreat (check out www.stokelycreek.com for details)! On behalf of AHC Board member Gaylen Byker, his wife Susan, daughter Tanya, and son-in-law Ian Phair, we invite you to plan your next hike or mountain bike at Stokely and enjoy this beautiful area year-round.
We also invite you to check out our new website at www.algomahighlandsconservancy.org !!! Dean Thompson and fellow Board members have worked very hard with Lisa Schuyler of Goldwing Networks to give our site a major facelift. This new site offers an excellent overview of our four fundamental principles - conservation, silent sport recreation, environmental education, and sustainable forestry – as well as updates on our current priority goal - fundraising for the “Legacy Lands Campaign”. We now have several new Board members and you can meet them face-to-face under the “About us” tab.
The new website will be a principal means of dispersing information to AHC members and all those interested in our activities. We plan to update the site frequently and invite you to check it regularly for new information. We are excited to be working with our new website host Lisa Schuyler at the Goldwing Network. During the transfer and re-engineering of the website, Lisa has demonstrated great proficiency in website maintenance, creativity in design and an ability to quickly respond to our needs. We look forward to continued excellent working relations with Lisa and Goldwing as our website develops further.
Further on the good news front, thanks to the hard work of Nicolle Thompson and Karen Streich, we have been awarded an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant! These funds are earmarked to hire a full time Executive Director and so the search is on! Are you passionate about conservation and environmental issues? Have you had experience with fundraising for a not-for-profit organization? Perhaps you, or someone you know may be looking for an exciting new career challenge! We know how passionate Stokely fans are! A complete job description and advertisement can be found on our new website.
In closing, please circulate this newsletter to others you feel may be interested in our cause. We encourage you to email us with any questions that you have and/or provide us with your full contact information, including email, so that we can update our files and keep you better informed about new developments at Stokely. Please forward information to [email protected] or, if you do not have access to email, send the information to either our Canadian or American office address. We respect your privacy and will not forward your contact information without your permission.
