At the August Michigan Cup Committe meeting there was much discussion on Team Scoring - Large vs. Small Teams, etc. Although The Michigan Cup remains the top prize for a team, the Committee instituted a second team-placing system, the
Brumbaugh Cup .
The Michigan Cup championship stresses team participation; the Brumbaugh Cup focus on power ranking. For the 2007-2008 season, the Brumbaugh Cup ranking is based on the following points system:
- Top three age group placings
- Overall Male and Female
- Top twenty Senior Men placings
- Top ten Senior Women, Junior Men and Junior Women Placing.
We did a quick calculation of the Burmbaugh Cup standings based on results through the Michigan Cup Marathon. Hanson Hills/Cross Country Ski Shop leads the standings:
Brumbaugh Cup standings through the Michigan Cup Marathon- Hanson Hills/Cross Country Ski Shop - 118
- Grand Rapids Nordic Ski Team - 95
- NordicSkiRacer.Com - 87
- Traverse Nordic Ski Team - 76
- Straits Striders - 62
- Cross Country Ski Headquarters - 26
- Ohio Nordic - 0
The Brumbaugh Cup is instituted on a trial basis and will be evaluated after the 2008 ski season. It does not replace the traditional Michigan Cup scoring system and is not intended to do that.
